Warning: This post has nothing to do with the election!!!

The other day in Toronto hundreds of women gathered in slut solidarity to protest the comments from  neanderthal police officer Const. Michael Sanguinetti who suggested said and I quote here "women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimized.”

WTF??!?!?!?!?!  Are we in 1956 or in some stone age sharia state?  Both of which are places where victims are blamed for the actions of their assailants.

Const. Sanguinetti has apologized and disciplined internally but the man has no business speaking to anyone in the public and I certainly hope that he is removed from any and all future public speaking roles.

Now reading about this got me thinking about the word slut and the women this word is assigned to.

When I was in high school the worst name a girl could be called was a slut.  When my own girl was in high school it was the same and now I am pretty sure that still holds.

Just what is a slut?  A woman who likes sex?  A woman who has a lot of sex?  A woman who has a lot of sex partners?  Is a slut identified by the clothes she wears?  How high do heels have to be, how much cleavage can be shown, how tight the jeans, how short the skirt?  Are these women identified by how they dress or perhaps they are identified on the walls of men's restrooms.

Or more importantly - so what?!?!  What does it matter what a woman wears or how lively her sex life is?

I've made a decision.  I am reclaiming the word!  If rappers can reclaim the word nigger and if gay men can reclaim the word fag then I am reclaiming the word slut.

Slut, slut, slut, slut.

I like the word.  I am the word.  I am a slut.

We all know of my penchant for CFM shoes and my proclivities in attire are most definitely sluttish.  So in the name of sisterhood I proudly align myself with those women who marched in Toronto and every other slut out there who refuses to relegated to second class status.

I am a law abiding citizen in a democracy.  I vote for who I want, I read what I want, I associate with who I want.  I pay taxes, donate to charity, volunteer my time and am a good neighbour.  I don't kick puppies and I follow the rules of the road.  I say please and thank you and I tip well.  I call my mother and am a good mother.  I pray, I am grateful and I wear lots of make up and tight clothes.  As for sexual partners that I have had, well, I don't kiss and tell.  So I may be a slut but that doesn't mean my right to personal safety is null and void.

If anything, we should be proud of all the sluts in our community.  Sluts are proof that western society and values are superior.  Proof that in this society people don't blame their behaviour on others, we are accountable.  There will be none of that devil (in a blue dress) made me do it crap!  We  don't imprison rape victims for adultery.  We don't murder our daughters for dishonouring our family name because some animal brutalized her.

If you want to know if a society is a true democracy, look to your sluts!  Are they roaming free and safe?  If they are then you know you live in a society that holds dear the ideology of western culture and democracy!

So, in praise of all sluts, from a woman who epitomizes the modern slut I give you Lady Gaga!

I am beautiful in my way
Because God makes no mistakes
I'm on the right track baby
I was born this way

  2. I think this was an overreaction to what the officer said. Yes it was not well worded but it still had a truth. No woman is responsible if she is raped, however there are some bad people out there and if you can do something to lessen the chance that you will be the chosen victim, why not do it. We try to streetproof our children. We don't think they are responsible or to blame if they are victimized. But if you can help them not draw attention in certain situations that might lead them to not be chosen as a victim, then why not do it. Like a policeman told a friend of mine after her car was stolen and she wondered about some anti car theft device "If a thief wants your car, he can get it no matter what you do. However, if he is just looking for a convenient vehicle to steal, and yours has a device on it, he will choose a different one." If someone has already chosen you as his victim there isn't much you can do to change his mind and you are not to blame in any way. However, if he is just looking for any victim, why not do as much as you can to not draw attention to yourself so it isn't you he choses.

  3. Old woman you are a fool! The clothes a woman wears makes her a target?

Read the literature old woman - an easy target for a rapist is a woman who is isolated or not paying attention or is not of sound mind (drunk or stoned).

Where are you from? Saudi Arabia?? Actually, I take that back. In the Netherlands rape of white women is on the increase and their perpetrators are muslim immigrants who think that women who aren't covered in a veil are sluts and therefore available for their sexual gratification.

That's what you are supporting. An acceptance that a victim is somehow to blame. You contradict yourself.

Another point - the women over 50 who get raped are attacked by men in their 20s? Tell me, what could they have been wearing that is so provacative?

Your attitude is out of date and offensive.

  4. In a perfect world a slut would never be violated against her will. In this world a slut runs the odds that she will be targeted by some freak who sees her uniform as a calling card. I hope this never happens to any woman but it can and it does. Be careful, having rights doesn't make you right. (real conservative)

  5. My wife and I want our daughter to dress modestly.I guess that makes us the Taliban. If you could spend a day living your life 'wired' the way a man is 'wired' and hearing what men say when women are not around you'd probably cover up a little more. Michele Malkin once wrote (and I paraphrase)"Dressing like a slut is not empowerment."

  6. You really didn't read what I said or interpreted it in the way that suited you. Women (and children) are never to blame for attacks but there are bad people out there and they don't think like rational people. Would you tell a child that "you can do whatever you want" even if it might put that child in a situation that could increase their chances of being victimized? I have a right to do this even if it in creases my chances to be the one chosen to be victimized. Yes you have the right but is it wise? That's the whole crux of the matter. There' no point in being "dead" right.

What do you gain by calling me names? Can't you discuss things rationally?

  7. Anon 8:33 - no dressing modestly does not make you Taliban. It simply means that you live in a country where you can wear what you want. But if you think that dressing modestly will stop a rapist you're wrong. Rapists seem to prefer targets with long hair and in ponytails and clothes that easily removed or cut off. So, how are you going to dress now? As for Michele Malkin, she is certainly entitled to her opinion but she has been known to wear low cut tops and skirts above the knee too. Lots of pics on the internet to choose from.

Learn. And quit blaming the victim - rape has nothing to do with her and everything to do with the rapist.
